ABOUT MORGAN DEWEESE
I am currently majoring in Leadership with a minor in Public Service at Old Dominion University. I am a member of the Phi Thetta Kappa honor society, The National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and the Honors College at Old Dominion University. I graduated from Tidewater Community College summa cum laude in 2017.
My interest in leadership stems from my desire to lead in an environmental organization. The desire to work in an organization with a focus on environmental issues is my belief that environmental conservation and sustainability begins with individuals. We can all make choices each day to lessen our impact on the environment. It was my courses in environmental studies that helped me find a focus for my overall degree and professional goal. As a public servant, I am excited for the opportunities to serve my community with integrity and compassion and increase environmental awareness. As I progress in my degree I look forward to working on my involvement in service activities that will introduce me to organizations and people with similar goals.
Professionally, I have almost exclusively worked in the salon and day spa industry. In 2007 I graduated from high school and got my cosmetology license. At the time I believed this would be my career. In the beauty industry I have worked as a cosmetologist, assistant, and receptionist. As a receptionist I have been responsible for not only the day to day operations, but also managing inventory, promotions and packages, coaching employees, and organizing spa and bridal parties. Years of experience in this industry have shown me that I am able to lead, that I have customer service skills, organization skills, and the ability to think both creatively and critically. While I have enjoyed working in salons and spas I am anxious to take what I have learned, and continue to learn, to my desired career.
